Jonathan BergerJONATHAN BERGER (composer in residence) is widely regarded as one of the world’s foremost living composers. His works include orchestral, chamber, vocal, choral, and electro-acoustic music. He has been commissioned by some of today’s most exciting chamber ensembles and has enjoyed awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Ford Foundation, the Mellon Foundation, the Bourges Festival, Westdeutschen Rundfunks, and Chamber Music America. Current commissions include a string quartet (his fifth), a piano trio, a work for large chamber ensemble, and a chamber opera. Berger is also an active researcher with over sixty publications in a wide range of fields relating to music, science, and technology. He co-directs the Stanford Institute for Creativity and the Arts, and is the Denning Family Provostial Professor at Stanford University. Miracles and Mud, Berger’s recent Naxos recording of music for solo violinand string quartet, has received considerable critical acclaim. Other works have been released on the Sony, Neuma, CRI, and Harmonia Mundi labels.
